I have an unabashed love of Valentine’s Day. I know it’s a Hallmark holiday, but I love it nonetheless. I will take any excuse to celebrate the people that I love, especially if that celebration involves chocolate. These Valentine’s Hearts are homemade chocolates shaped in heart shaped candy molds. The secret to my chocolate is to add a little salt and pepper. You won’t pick up on the flavor, but the spices hit different parts of your mouth resulting in an unexpected pop of flavor. Of course, you could pour the liquid chocolate into any mold and shape it into any form you desire. Hearts seemed like the way to go for me; hand-wrapping in red tin foil was the final special touch. They do take a little bit of time to make, but the effect is well worth it. Happy Valentine’s Day! -Amanda

2. Take the melted butter off the heat. Whisk in the powdered sugar until dissolved. Then whisk in the cacao powder, salt, pepper and vanilla.
